Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve Guide
Schotia Safaris: The 'Cat's Castle' Experience Guide
Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve, often called "The Cat's Castle," offers an unforgettable wildlife experience in the heart of the Eastern Cape. Unlike larger national parks, Schotia provides a more intimate and concentrated game viewing opportunity, particularly renowned for its high density of lions. It's a fantastic option for those with limited time or who prefer a more guided and personalized safari adventure. Prepare to be amazed by the close encounters with Africa's iconic wildlife. While not steeped in ancient history, Schotia's story is one of conservation and dedication to preserving the region's natural heritage. The reserve was established to protect and rehabilitate the land, transforming it into a thriving ecosystem for a diverse range of animals. The owners have worked tirelessly to create a sanctuary where wildlife can flourish, and visitors can witness the beauty of the African bush. A typical Schotia safari includes a guided game drive, often in open vehicles, allowing for unobstructed views of the animals. You'll have the chance to spot lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and a variety of antelope and bird species. Many tours also include a traditional South African meal, offering a taste of local cuisine. The night drives are particularly popular, providing a unique perspective on nocturnal wildlife behavior. While Schotia doesn't have a specific culinary tradition unique to the reserve itself, the meals served often feature braaied (barbecued) meats and other South African staples.
